Why aren't OCC programs free?
The Oxford Community Center receives no funding from the Town of Oxford. Even though the Community Center is Municipally owned and operated, no tax dollars are allocated to fund programming or staff at the Center. The Center must therefore fund itself through program and enrollment fees. We have made a great effort to keep our rates as low as possible so that as many people as possible can take advantage of our programs, but we do need to meet our operating expenses from these programs.
Can the OCC fundraise or accept donations?
Because the OCC is municipally owned and operated, we cannot directly fundraise or solicit donations. Fundraising is accomplished through a "Friends" committee which is established as a separate, private, non-profit organization. A "Friends of the Community Center" organization has been formed for this purpose. Please click here for more information..
Do you have to be an Oxford resident to participate in OCC programs and offerings?
No, our programs are open to the general public unless otherwise stated. Please be aware however, that in the case of classes or programs with limited enrollment, preference will be given to Oxford residents first.
Where are you located?
The Community Center is located at the old Oxford Middle School building. The street address is 4 Maple Road.
How could I get a program started at the Community Center?
Most of our program instructors are local residents who have a demonstrated knowledge or ability ability in a certain field. If you have a particular talent, skill or base of knowledge that you feel would be conducive to holding a class or program at the Community Center, please contact us here.
