Public Officials Hike to Promote Fund Drive for Oxford Fire Department Equipment
New Thermal Imaging Camera Sought

The Oxford Firefighters Association (Oxford IAFF Local 4634) has launched a fund raiser (https://www.gofundme.com/thermal-imaging-camera-fund) to purchase a thermal imaging camera for the Oxford Fire Department.

A team of active and retired Town Manager's, Superintendents, and other public officials including former Town Manager Brian Palaia are working with the Firefighters Association to promote the fund drive with a post winter/early spring hike into the White Mountains Saturday May 5th. The hikers will ascend to the "Tripyramids", two summit elevations each over 4000' summit elevation in what is known as a "day hike". Others are welcome to join them, however, they should have experience with winter hiking and the appropriate equipment to make a hike in post winter/early spring conditions to that summit elevation. Conditions at the summit can vary greatly from conditions at the base! The hikers will depart from the base of the mountain at 8:00 am, reach the summit, and return to the base by 4:00 pm.

A thermal imaging camera detects temperature differences as little a degree. It can clearly depict the image of a victim on the floor of a smoke filled room or the location of the fire and/or heat source. A thermal imaging camera can also help prevent a structure fire from developing in cases where a resident thinks there may be something burning in the house. A firefighter can enter the structure and scan it with the camera, identifying any unusual heat sources and thereby prevent the fire from spreading and causing a larger loss of property. The camera costs about $1,400. The team's goal is to raise at least $500 toward the purchase. The team already has three commitments for a donation toward that amount. The official charity for this event is the Oxford IAFF Local 4634 who will receive all funds donated through this initiative for use toward purchasing this thermal imaging camera for the Town of Oxford Fire Department!
